News from EPI Media advisory: EPI to host Zandi, Hubbard, Furman, other top economists in bipartisan urgent call for aid to state, local public services

On Monday, June 1, at 9 a.m. Eastern, the Economic Policy Institute will host a press call with a bipartisan panel of the nation’s top economists to discuss the urgent need for federal aid for state and local public services—including public safety, health, and education—to mitigate the economic harm caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Many economists agree that a failure to provide significant federal aid to state and local governments will exacerbate the current depression and hamper the recovery.

The bipartisan group of panelists will assess the state of our economy and discuss the importance of adequate aid to individuals, businesses, and state and local public services to speed and sustain a robust recovery.

  • Glenn Hubbard—chair of the Council of Economic Advisors during the George W. Bush administration, Dean Emeritus and Russell L. Carson Professor of Finance and Economics at the Columbia School of Business
