News from EPI Daniel Costa re-joins the Economic Policy Institute as Director of Immigration Law and Policy Research

The Economic Policy Institute is pleased to welcome back Daniel Costa as the Director of Immigration and Law Policy Research. Daniel Costa is an attorney who first joined the Economic Policy Institute in 2010 and was EPI’s Director of Immigration Law and Policy Research from 2013 until early 2018; he is returning to this role after serving as the California Attorney General’s senior advisor on immigration and labor.

“We are very excited to have Daniel back at EPI during this critical time for migrant workers and their families,” said Heidi Shierholz, EPI’s Director of Policy. “Daniel’s work on federal immigration law and policy has been an asset to EPI for years, and his recent experience in California, which included helping fight against the overreaches of the Trump administration, will add a valuable dimension to EPI’s state-level work and initiatives. We’re thrilled to have him back.”

Costa’s areas of research include a wide range of labor migration issues, including governance of temporary labor migration programs, both high- and less-skilled migration, worksite enforcement, immigrant workers’ rights, and global multilateral processes related to migration, as well as refugee and asylum issues.

“I am excited and honored to be re-joining my colleagues at the nation’s leading progressive economic think tank in order to head the efforts to improve labor standards throughout the immigration system and protect all migrant workers,” said Costa. “As I begin my ninth year with the Institute, I realize there has never been a more important time to engage in this work.”
